Fostering diversity in Energy Sector.
Introduction:
WIES is a voluntary group of professionals working together in the
energy sector providing networking, advocacy, training, coaching and mentoring
opportunities. It encourages involvement of both women and men at all levels of
leadership to promote diversity & inclusion, talent management, unconscious
bias etc. at work place.
The mission of the group is to encourage collaborative working &
having a dialogue on different working cultures in the energy sector, share
industry knowledge, experiences on enacting positive organizational change and
personal growth.
The forum brings together women in the energy sectors, along with
male counterparts, from across the globe to contribute immensely towards
sustainable energy development of energy sector.
In today’s world, women in energy are embraced
and empowered to make a difference to business. However, there is still a lot
of ground to cover, as women only account to around 10% of the global workforce
in Energy sector. The issue has not been the inclusion of women
only. The talent pool, from which companies pick up female talent has also been
dry. This is said that the proportion of young women studying engineering and
physics has remained at the same level since 2012.
Having the above information in account, we can
see there is a problem that comes in two folds. On one hand, we need more women
executives at top positions in energy sector so that young women see them as
their inspiration and at the same time we need more young women participating
in Engineering, Physics and associated studies so that the energy companies
have enough talent to choose from.
Journey so far:
WIES was born in year 2016, and since then we
have worked tirelessly to educate, empower and ensure that women have all that
is required for them to shine in the energy sector.
Various WIES conferences are driven by various
well thought-of themes that aim at the sole aim of empowering and celebrating
women in the energy sector.

Audience:
WIES is a platform to increase the diversity
and inclusion awareness. It is mainly
aimed at women in the energy sector. However, current executives, irrespective
of the gender are an audience of the conference.
In addition, students from premier colleges are
also the audience of this conference.
Events:
The conferences are loaded with various keynote
speeches, panel discussions, presentations and interesting workshops that drive
along the central theme of the conference.
In addition, LED talks (Learning, Engagement,
Development) are also organized, in which executives from energy sector share
their knowledge and lessons to the graduates, young professionals and mid-level
managers.
Impact:
WIES, right from its inception has hugely impacted its audience. The
aim had always been to provide inspiration to participants who strive to climb
the ladder of success. WIES as a massive collaborative platform for knowledge
sharing and networking has been able to pull more and more people to not only
create awareness but also to create a culture of inclusiveness.
As a forum, WIES has enabled its participants to connect and derive
inspiration from the success stories of top executives of the energy sector. In
short, it has brought change to a lot of officials from the energy sector to
emphasize gender inclusivity in their respective organizations.
WIES, throughout its various versions, has also laid a lot of
emphasis on the importance of knowledge and skills. It is important to note
that, a person should be known for their skill, dependability and capability.
For women to rise up the corporate ladder in the energy sector she should
possess skills that makes her indispensable and thus, paves her way to the top.
Networking and fostering emotional drive for success through
experiences of stalwarts from the energy sector is also one of the major
agendas of WIES each year. All tasks bear a fruitful result when the task lies
at the point of intersection of the doer’s passion and motivation, therefore,
in WIES, we make all efforts that when a participant leaves the room, they are
full of passion to excel and have the required motivation to do the same.
WIES is paving the path to eradicate stereotypical barriers in
mind-sets of people towards women, irrespective of gender.
